This guy here was my first character on A Moment in Tyme, and boy has he done alot...
Here's what he looks like:
A man in a long black cape wearing a blue headband to keep his hair back. He doesn't *look* talkative. His face has the look of long suffering now long past.
He seems to say no more headaches every now and again seemingly not believing that fact.
Eldrick looks up at you and says,"Can I help you with something?"
Of course you ARE staring at him, and that is just his natural reaction. He has the callouses of an avid reader.
You'll have to make due with text as I don't/can't draw people, and in truth I would never presume so upon your imagination.
I bet you're wondering what I have done with this guy... well not a whole lot that I can truely remember.
He grew up in the Menagerie (Circus) of a one Master Baral Jimar where his parents still are to this day. He worked any and every little attraction there in his quest to not feel like a rube -he even worked the kissing booth. Like any guy he eventually fell in love -no it had nothing to do with his kissing booth time ;) - with a girl who her and her father practiced the High Wire. Eldrick was eventually asked to try his hand at it... and he found his niche. He could do this blindfolded and tied up if needed he was that good, and he would understudy his love's father for the less populous show times as they really weren't worth the time of the Father -he had a BIG ego. One day tragedy struck.... he fell and broke his leg in eight places, and rather than stay and be pitied he left... leaving his daughter in the hands of the one he knew loved her, Eldrick.
The next 2 years went by like in a dream, the Menagerie wasn't the biggest or the best... but everyone ate very well -even in winter. And of course.... TRAGEDY STRUCK -kinda expected it didn't ya. While performing the 10th big show of the new spring season... Eldrick almost dropped his balance poll... in truth he had... BUT he CHANNELED and reclaimed it. He never was sure if he had... but he figured that that was what it had to be. He told her and she didn't care... that she loved him no matter what he could do. Elated they continued to work.
One month later while performing their standard routine, and wind gust came up and swept her off the rope -no he didn't channel it- he vainly grasped for the Power... but it ignored him... she fell to her death. Baral told him that if one more thing happened he'd be fired -Baral had heard a rumor that Eld might be a channeler. Eldrick professed his innocence, and asked him to not mention being fired again... that he hated fire. But it was too late... the thought of fire brought one forth... as Eldrick subconciously channeled a blaze at the top of the Big Top. The Tent wasn't saved... neither was Eldrick's career as he was canned on the spot even though no evidence was available.
Eldrick then began wandering the local area trying to find a job, but it didn't matter the rumor was spread. He could find no work.
The CHILDREN OF THE LIGHT soon caught word of the rumor and sent a young new officer to find out about the truth of this. He found Eldrick in an Inn's backroom Bathhouse deep into a long soaking bath. He assaulted Eldrick's ears with outlandish tales of his Channeling damage. Eldrick paid no head. He Accused Eldrick of being a Channeler. Eldrick paid no head. HE accused Eldrick of Killing the woman Eldrick so loved. Eldrick stood... and pissed on the Whitecloak's snowy white cloak. Affronted the CoTL ran out... never it seems to bother Eldrick again.
Right as Eldrick was nearing the end of his painfully saved and invested fortune... he found Valan Luca's Menagerie ... just after they had lost their High Walker. He took the chance and asked for the job... Luca had never heard of his past and hired him. While under Luca's Employ he'd heard the tale of a traveleing merchant... a tale about the Aiel Waste... about a valley shrouded in mist... a mountain near this valley... and a stone on that mountain. Eldrick had seen one of these nearby and was curious. He took the merchant to the one he had seen. They were similar as far as the merchant -who wasn't allowed near the one on the mountain- could tell. Eldrick thanked the man... and after studying the stone for a day... got it to take him there. He arrived before dawn, and without his own knowledge became invisible as he crept to the Mist Shrouded Vale, Rhuidean. He didn't stay in it long as as soon as he got there the dust of the floor came alive and moved towards him in man-like shape. He fled out the way he came in... back to the stone... and somehow was gone before anyone knew the difference.
He returned to the job he'd had for the last few months... and fearing that somehow an Aiel would come through the stone and get him... resigned and began traveling the continent... not as a man seeking work but as an Explorer and Cartographer who'd map a man's lands for a few crowns... or draw a portrait of his wife for him to take with him when he traveled into town to sell off what needed to be sold. He had tons of talent and would use every bit... and to be DAMNED with channeling. It had caused him nothing but grief -he would never use it again.
When finally his mapping brought him to Caemlyn, he didn't stop on his first trip through... he continued South to Illian and Tear... and mapped those great nations out, and up through Murandy... where his blood called home. And then he came back to Andor ... to Caemlyn to map and to rest after the last year of furious travel and furious cartography. By now his powers were getting the best of him.... increasing so that he couldn't even hold it back... fight back the need at all to channel. Yeah verily the weather in Andor was odd for a while... then one day he decided to go up to the blight to make an end of his bitter life. To destroy maybe no more than 2 square feet of that vileness with the last of his life. A Child of The Light named Antain stopped him... made him sit where he was till this desire left him. And so Eldrick remained... till the Child fell asleep and he wrote a notee and sent it... a note to the Tower... the White Tower of Tar Valon asking for help in his problem... asking for release from his curse.... this channeling vileness. They sent an envoy, Alviarin Sedai of the White Ajah, to get him and make sure his trip was safe.
He made it to Tar Valon unharmed where the Amyrlin herself saw to his Gentling, and released him to his own governing soon after as it was seen that he was far happier a man. Dare they say the only man who has been ecstatic after being gentled ever. He has since completed as much of his map as he deems necessary at this time... it Covers from Shienar to Tear, Falme to Rhuidean, and Almoth Plain to Windbitters finger. He has yet to map Kandor, Saldaea, Tanchico, and Arad Doman -but he doesn't care right now... not at all so happy is he to be free. Free from the Taint. Free.
Currently he can be found at the Big Man Inn in Alindaer. Second Floor First room on the Left. Feel free to stop by.
UPDATE:
He left Alindaer to continue his mapwork. His cartographic skills honed
from many hours of map copying, were better than ever... and now after
many months he has found his way back from Arad Doman and Saldaea and other
lands in that corner of the Continent.
But with all the new goings on he has had to learn to really fight. Sword and Dagger are now in his hands more often than the quill.
He is currently headed to Cairhien to the School there to see the oddities...
even with all the troubles in the land.
After a period of uncreatedness he is back after I renamed the recreated Arhden to him. So now he can wander around again.
